2011-2012 LOWELL FIVE PERFORMING ARTS SERIES

In the Heights - November 3, 2011 at 8:00pm
In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in Manhattan's Washington Heights- a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open, and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It's a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

Rock of Ages - December 7, 2011 at 8:00pm
In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small town girl met a big city rocker and in LA’s most famous rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the 80s. It’s Rock of Ages, an arena-rock love story told through the amazing hits of Journey, Night Ranger, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia, Whitesnake and many more. Don’t miss this awesomely good time about dreaming big, playing loud and partying on!

Blast! - February 11, 2012 at 8:00pm
Blast! seems intended to be America's answer to the entertainment extravaganzas that have toured the globe the last few years. Unlike Riverdance, Stomp! or Tap Dogs, however, the focus of Blast! - under the helm of producer and artistic director James Mason - is more on music than dance. Fifty-eight talented young men and women blow horns, pound drums, and throw flags in this Tony & Emmy nominated performance!

Come Fly Away - March 1, 2012 at 8:00pm
Come Fly Away follows four couples as they fall in and out of love during one song and dance filled evening at a crowded nightclub. Blending the legendary vocals of Sinatra with a live onstage 19-piece big band and 15 dancers, the show features a hit parade of Sinatra classics, including “Fly Me to the Moon,” “My Way” and “That’s Life.” The show’s score combines classic and newly discovered vocal performances from the Sinatra archives along with signature arrangements, choreographed by Twyla Tharp, famed choreographer of Movin’ Out and Singing in the Rain.
This one of a kind experience combines the seductive vocals of “Ol’ Blue Eyes” with the sizzling sound of a live on-stage big band and the visceral thrill of Tharp's choreography. Experience the exhilaration of a first kiss, the excitement of a first dance, and the bitter-sweet moments of a first goodbye in a world of sparkling romance and astonishing beauty.

Neil Berg's 100 Years of Broadway - May 3, 2012 at 7:30pm
This lavish and lively spectacular by award-winning composer Neil Berg recreates some of the biggest moments from the best-known Broadway musicals of the last 100 years. Five Broadway stars of shows such as Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, CATS, Aida, Jesus Christ Superstar and Little Shop of Horrors light up the stage with the help of an all-star Broadway Orchestra, performing revivals of Broadway classics as well as selections from newer hit musicals. It's an all-star evening, you'll always remember!

Burn the Floor - May 8, 2012 at 8:00pm
Burn the Floor is packed with “How did they do that?” moments as the world-class dancers perform lifts, intricate footwork and thrilling group dances choreographed by former world champ Jason Gilkison. The action never lags during the show’s 25 numbers, many of which are accompanied by a pair of singers and a lively onstage quartet (as well as recorded music). The two acts are loosely divided into sections that move from classic to contemporary dance, but you’ll be too busy watching these amazing performers strut their stuff to glance down at your program. If you’ve missed seeing pure dance on a Broadway stage, this is the show for you!
